Set Up a Loyalty Program for Your Shopify Store

Launch a points-based loyalty program with Tajo that rewards Shopify purchases and powers retention campaigns through Brevo.

A loyalty program turns occasional buyers into regulars. Tajo’s native loyalty engine awards points on synced Shopify orders and feeds Brevo so you can market around member status.

Quick check You need a connected Shopify store syncing to Brevo through Tajo and Owner or Admin access. Decide your earn rate and at least one reward before you launch so members see value immediately.

How Tajo Loyalty Works

When a Shopify order syncs, Tajo awards points to the customer’s profile, tracks their lifetime balance, and emits a Loyalty Points Earned event. That event and the member’s tier sync to Brevo as contact attributes, so you can segment and automate around loyalty status.

Step 1: Enable the Loyalty Engine

  1. Open Tajo > Loyalty and click Enable loyalty program.
  2. Name the program (for example, “Insider Rewards”).
  3. Choose the currency the program displays in. Match it to your primary Shopify store currency.

Step 2: Set the Earn Rate

Decide how many points an order earns. Keep the math simple for customers.

ModelExampleNotes
Points per amount spent1 point per 1 unit of currencyMost common, easy to understand
Points per order50 points per completed orderSimple, ignores order value
Bonus actionsExtra points for signup or reviewLayer on top of the base rate

Set the base earn rate under Loyalty > Earning rules. Detailed rules are covered in points and rewards rules.

Step 3: Define When Points Are Awarded

Choose the qualifying event so points reflect real revenue:

  • On Order Placed: instant gratification, but you may claw back points on refunds.
  • On Order Fulfilled (recommended): points award once the order ships, reducing fraud and refund clawbacks.

Set this under Loyalty > Settings > Award trigger.

Step 4: Create at Least One Reward

  1. Go to Loyalty > Rewards and click Add reward.
  2. Choose a reward type: a fixed discount, percentage discount, or free shipping.
  3. Set the point cost.
  4. Tajo generates a Shopify discount code when a member redeems, so the reward applies at checkout automatically.

Tip Price your first reward so an average customer can reach it within two to three orders. A reward that takes a year to earn does not change behavior.

Step 5: Show the Program to Customers

  1. In Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize, open App embeds.
  2. Enable the Tajo loyalty widget so customers see their balance and rewards.
  3. Optionally add a loyalty block to the account or cart page.

Step 6: Connect Loyalty to Brevo Marketing

Tajo syncs each member’s points balance and tier to Brevo. Use this to:

  • Email members when they are close to a reward (“You are 80 points away”).
  • Segment by tier for VIP-only campaigns. See segmentation basics.
  • Add a points incentive to your win-back flow.

Step 7: Test the Full Loop

  1. Place a test order with a fresh email.
  2. If you award on fulfillment, mark the order fulfilled.
  3. Confirm points appear on the customer in Tajo > Loyalty.
  4. Confirm the points balance attribute updates on the contact in Brevo.
  5. Redeem a reward and confirm the Shopify discount code works at checkout.

Common Questions

Do refunds remove points? If you award on Order Placed, configure refund clawback under Loyalty settings. Awarding on fulfillment avoids most of this.

Can existing customers earn retroactively? You can grant starting points based on synced order history during launch as a goodwill bonus.

Does this need a separate app? No. Loyalty is native to Tajo and uses the same Shopify and Brevo connection you already have.
